Kids and Taxes – Podcast

April 14, 2021by Susan BeachamNo Comments

The standard Tax Day would usually be this week. But, thanks to a government extension we all have another month to file.  As adults we often dread “tax day.”  We sometimes forget what the taxes are used for – and how they benefit our day-to-day lives.

In this Seven Figures – Seat at the Kids Table podcast segment, we asked kids if they paid taxes and what they thought about them.  It’s a subject many adults do not discuss much, let alone kids.  But it is an important topic to help them understand why taxes exist, and that they do serve a purpose for us all on a local and national level.

Have you ever discussed taxes with your kids?  Have your kids ever asked about them when out shopping together?  If so, what did you tell them?

The Lottery – Podcast

April 8, 2021by Susan BeachamNo Comments

April is National Financial Literacy Month.  A time near and dear to me and our mission to help kids get smart about money.  There’s no better way to help teach kids about money concepts than to start by asking them what they already think about those topics.  So to kick off this holy month of financial literacy, we asked kids what they thought about the lottery.

When the numbers get big, it seems everyone jumps on board and buys their ticket (or tickets) in hopes of a “big win.”  But this get-rich-quick scheme isn’t a financial plan.

Listen in to this short podcast segment (about 5 minutes) where kids share their ideas about the lottery, and I share a few tips on how adults can discuss the topic with them.

What IS Money? Podcast

March 3, 2021by Susan BeachamNo Comments

Money is a tool that helps us achieve our goals. What would our world be without money as a tool?

Take a listen to the kids’ answers in today’s podcast segment when they are asked what they think of a world without money.  Their answers might surprise you (I was delighted).

Conversations with our kids about money are a way to hear what they think and to help them understand more about what you think. The more we talk about money the more we learn and the more comfortable we get with the money conversation.

Time well spent!

Two thumbs up for allowance – Podcast

January 29, 2021by Susan BeachamNo Comments

For years adults have been asking me about what to do about allowance.  When do I start?  How much should I give my kids?  What if I can’t get money to my kids each week and on time?  Will I fail before I start?

My friend, Sandy Waters with the Seven Figures Podcast, a smart money strategies podcast for women, has started a new segment called “A Seat at the Kids Table” where I get the chance to answer questions about kids and money topics each week.  The first topic?  You guessed it – Allowance!

Here is a video of that podcast segment and my thoughts about allowance (Spoiler alert: I’m a BIG fan! 😉).
